Celebrating Three Years as Luminea Creative

Jenni Ohnstad, owner of Luminea Creative, a brand strategy and design studio for nonprofits, sitting at her desk celebrating three years in business.

My business has truly grown in my third year. I have made so many great connections with new clients and collaborators. When I partner with my clients to illuminate their core mission, it resonates with their ideal audience, forging a powerful connection. This connection often evolves into a community of loyal supporters, passionately aligned with your mission. Visuals play a pivotal role in this strategy—they elevate your message, making it more captivating and unforgettable. Using design to visualize their values, I’ve helped my clients increase their impact within our community.

Client Results

  • I continue to support former colleagues at Vanderbilt University. Last year was a full circle moment—rebranding Vanderbilt's Dyer Observatory—which I did the original branding 20 years prior as an employee! I was honored to also do the branding for Vanderbilt Sustainable Labs, aimed at reducing waste and promoting best practices.

I love supporting Vanderbilt University Divinity School's efforts in social justice and equality by designing their lecture poster series.

My husband spent many years doing research in Central and South America, so I feel a special bond with Vanderbilt's Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies. I've been designing their Year in Review publication for longer than I can remember, and it is a joy to see names old and new highlighting their newest endeavors.

  • Catholic Charities, Diocese of Nashville, exceeded their fundraising goal for their annual Festival of Hope breakfast event in April, supported by my brand and marketing graphics. I also developed branding for Kaleidoscope, a new initiative to increase understanding of our foreign-born neighbors, culminating in a fun outdoor festival and website to explain the U.S. immigration process and how Catholic Charities supports new Americans.

  • Prenatal-to-3 Policy Impact Center is my newest client. They aim to accelerate states’ implementation of evidence-based policies that help all children thrive from the start. We have been overhauling their publication templates to make them more visually engaging and easy to read. As someone whose preemie children benefitted from state-sponsored early-intervention services, I am all about helping to expand these types of programs.

  • 2022-23 was a banner year for Nashville Ballet, with sold-out shows and top ticket revenue from Nashville's Nutcracker, featured in an interactive annual report. Designing the wordmarks and graphics for each performance is so much fun. Firebird and Romeo & Juliet were two of my favorites from the 23-24 Season.

In March of 2020, I painted colored tissue and collaged them together to make animal illustrations for Nashville Ballet's Carnival of Animals in the style of Eric Carle…and you can guess what happened soon after! I was so glad we were able to bring back my graphics to make an appearance last spring.

I've supported Nashville Ballet's design needs for the last five years, but July was my last bittersweet month. Good news though—I now have room in my schedule for a new fantastic nonprofit client! If you or someone you know needs a design partner, contact me.

THANK YOU. It looks SO GOOD…people are loving [the Year in Review publication].
— Avery Dickins de Girón, Ph.D. Executive Director, Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies

Pathways to achieve the results above:

Brand Strategy and Identity Design:

Where the magic happens! Diving deep to discover what makes you tick and visualizing your values as a logo or wordmark. Learn more about brand strategy here.

Brand Intensive:

Aimed at new businesses with smaller budgets who want to get off the ground quickly, the Brand Intensive is a two-week process.

Campaign and Event Branding:

Fundraisers and events are a chance to push your branding and add some personality. Cohesive and consistent visuals build recognition with your audience.

Publication Design:

Annual reports, magazines, and books are mini-brand ambassadors. They should tell a story that supports your brand’s mission and values in a visually compelling way. I have more than 20 years of experience designing print and digital publications—from 12 pages to 100.

VIP Design Day:

A full day’s access to my design skills! We begin with a call to talk over your priorities and goals, then schedule a day for me to give your brand a mini-refresh or design new marketing materials for you. Weeks' worth of back and forth can be condensed into 1–2 days. Learn more about the VIP Design Day process here.

Thank you for making my third year as Luminea Creative a success! If I can help you or anyone you know illuminate the heart of their brand and grow their audience, contact me here.
